D012 is a development methodology that enhances children's perseverance through writing, using a project-based approach. It helps break down large tasks into smaller parts, improves resilience, and fosters self-awareness. The main tool of this methodology is writing, which also enhances writing and reading skills, vocabulary, and creativity. In the workshops, children write their own books and follow the process from writing to publication.
This year, 47 children from Gödöllő, Kassák, P10, and Breznó schools participated in the program, writing a total of 33 books. The youngest children wrote short stories during their sessions, which were compiled into a single volume, while the older ones wrote individual books. The process culminates in a personal book launch event. When I asked the methodology's creator, Dorottya Vass, about the similarities between the groups, it became clear that perseverance, focus, and attention are consistent across ages; the topics and the amount of written content vary by age.
Throughout the year, children undergo a long, undulating creative process, but the captivating nature of storytelling and the support of the group help them overcome obstacles. The goal is for children to experience the importance of reading and the power of writing and storytelling through hands-on experience.
