A BPS children can learn to set goals and achieve them amidst all the "alternative learning" approaches; we see this happening. The question is whether they have the intelligence and ability to retrieve and apply this knowledge in a competitive setting? For example, preparing for and taking the central entrance exam. Can they do it within the framework of BPS? Now we know they can.
Although preparation for the central entrance exam is not the primary focus for BPS upper-grade students, and we do not use it as a filter at any entry point (not even in high school), we still see that BPS students performed above the national average, and some even exceeded the average of the elite schools in Budapest.
We have data on national averages, and for Budapest, we took the only available data from the AKG's own report. If we consider this as representative of the Budapest elite, then we can say that approximately 30% of BPS students who took the entrance exam performed above the average of the Budapest elite.
Let's look at the numbers: our Hungarian average is close to the national average, which is already a great result in itself. Moreover, in mathematics, we have significantly surpassed the average. This means that with proper attention and diligence, children studying at BPS are capable of achieving excellent results.
The most popular schools this year
This year, the BPS JPP Gymnasium received the highest number of applications; in three cases, it's already certain that students will continue their studies here, while in other cases, there are still schools ahead of JPP. Although many applications were received here, it generally ranked 4th or 5th in popularity. Among the most popular schools are Kürt, Közgazdasági Politechnikum, Európa 2000, and AKG, but some 8th graders also applied to state gymnasiums. We see that the children can hold their ground, even in alternative or state frameworks. They are capable of performing well.
