We are building a school where children can learn while preserving their natural curiosity, developing skills based on collaboration, emotional intelligence, and independence.
At BPS Dunakanyar, the school garden is just as much a classroom as the indoor spaces, which are built from natural materials.
This is why we envisioned BPS Dunakanyar on the outskirts of Nagymaros, in Felsőmező—where the untouched Danube shore is close by, a large garden surrounds the building, the Börzsöny Mountains are within reach, and accessibility is easy, whether children arrive by train or bicycle in the morning.

Growing up in the 21st century is not easy. Today's children often have to meet conflicting expectations:
At BPS Dunakanyar, we believe that these apparent contradictions actually complement each other. The goal of our school is to help children learn how—and when—to use these different skills throughout their lives.
Only those who know all seven notes of the scale can begin to make music.
We believe that our well-being is deeply connected to the well-being of nature. Living a healthy life includes treating our environment with respect and care.
At BPS Dunakanyar, following the principles of permaculture, children not only learn the basics of growing vegetables but also how to do so in a sustainable way.
When a seed grows into a plant, children experience the cycle of life firsthand. This helps them better understand how nature works and develop a deeper connection to healthy eating through their own experiences.
Art, music, and dance are not only part of our culture but also an integral part of everyday life at school. They support brain development while helping us form a deeper connection with ourselves—beyond the limits of words.
Creating, making music, and moving give us the opportunity to express our emotions, understand ourselves better, and embrace who we are.
Alternative education does not mean that children do not learn to cope with pressure. Every child has the desire to grow and surpass themselves. At Budapest School, we support them in this journey.
Everyone learns differently, and there is no single method that works for everyone. That is why it is essential to support each child on their own learning path.
Budapest School’s mentoring system helps children discover the learning methods that work best for them, set their own goals, and achieve them.
We encourage children not only to set personal goals but also to learn how to collaborate with others. Through paired and group projects, they develop emotional intelligence. We support them in practicing nonviolent communication and, in line with Budapest School’s core values, help them better understand, accept, and manage their emotions.
Project topics are often shaped by the children’s interests and the questions arising from their surroundings. This way, their work is not only meaningful to them but also has an impact on the school community and its environment.
The foundation of healthy relationships is self-awareness and clear, constructive communication. Through RULER modules, children learn to recognize and understand their emotions. They develop the ability to express themselves honestly and nonviolently, while also learning to listen to one another with an open heart and mind.
Our goal is to nurture children’s natural curiosity so that learning remains a joyful experience for them.
It is important that they discover their strengths, embrace challenges, and reflect consciously on how they learn and what goals they achieve. Growth mindset modules help them in this process.
We believe that our perspective on learning is shaped by how we see ourselves: Do we cling to a fixed self-image ("This is just who I am"), or are we open to growth and change ("I'll try again, and maybe I'll succeed")?
In today’s noisy world, it is essential for children to have moments when they are free from everyday pressures.
Incorporating meditation into their daily routine helps develop emotional resilience, academic performance, and mental well-being. We believe that introducing meditation is key to raising a more mindful and compassionate generation—one that can keep pace with the rapid changes of the world.
A Microcosm of the World
Our school is a small reflection of the world around us, where students experience its diversity firsthand. We believe that this helps them grow into balanced, adaptable, and successful adults—people who navigate challenges and opportunities with confidence and actively contribute to their communities.
